It has become very important to have a strong English vocabulary. It is not only important to get a good score on the IELTS exam, but it is also required to have a better understanding of what you read and to enhance your communication skills.

Vocabulary makes up 35% of IELTS writing and speaking scores and is also required in the listening and reading sections. The IELTS test doesn’t have any specific test for vocabulary, but indirectly it is used to access other skill tests of the exam.

This reason makes it sufficient for you to make a strong preparation of vocabulary. There are certain things that are suggested by our IELTS Coaching in Panchkula that you should know to improve your vocabulary and get high scores on the IELTS test.

Here we have provided you with a complete guide so that you can learn the most important vocabulary that will help you to understand the text more effectively.

Here are some quick tips to use and improve your communication, reading skills, and vocabulary as well.

    1. Maintain a notebook

It is evident that if you write things down by yourself, it will help you to remember information or words and their meanings more easily as compared to just reading them.

Try to maintain a notebook that you can carry with you everywhere, like a pocket notebook, so that you can write words that you want to memorize. This will help you to access information when you want, and you can take a quick look.

    2. Read materials in English

Reading helps in improving your vocabulary and making proper use of words. When you see a word or a phrase, you’ll clearly understand how to use it. Read a lot of materials in English, like books, articles, blogs and newspapers, and you’ll remember a word in the long run.

Newspapers are very helpful, as it contains precise writing in a formal manner that builds a useful vocabulary for your IELTS exam. If you are not fond of reading newspapers, you can also get a lot of reading materials from the internet.

We at IELTS coaching in Zirakpur suggest you always read the materials that interest you, even if it’s not meant to clear the IELTS test. In this manner, you’ll stay engaged and understand the context properly.

    3. Look up words that you don’t know.

Whenever you come across a word that you’re not familiar with, note it down with its meaning. Most of the time, people prefer to skip difficult academic words, which is very important for the IELTS test. Don’t make this mistake, but try to read, spell and write difficult words as well.

    4. Have a learner dictionary

Learners’ dictionaries are designed in simple language that is much beneficial for beginners and learners to understand. These dictionaries will also explain words in the form of examples so that you can understand them better.

    5. Practice

There might be times you’d come up with a new word, learn it, and remember it. The only thing left is to practice the word in your day-to-day life. You can test yourself by trying to speak about something using the words you have recently learned. This practice session will boost your vocabulary and help you remember the word in the long run.

    6. Learn what comes after a word

Certain words follow the previous word when it comes to prepositions, conjunctions and even verbs. For example, after the word I’d or I would, the word ‘rather’ always follows, as I’d rather go, I’d rather stay etc.

    7. Learn synonyms and antonyms

When you learn a new word, it is advisable to learn at least 3 synonyms and antonyms of the word so as to connect the words and develop a better understanding. In case you already know some of the synonyms and antonyms of the word, and so it will not be a difficult task for you.

    8. Learn about prefixes

This is something that you should know if you are appearing for any English test. A prefix is an affix placed before the stem of a word, and adding this prefix at the beginning of a word changes it into another word. For example, kind – unkind, honest – dishonest, polite – impolite etc.

    9. Try vocabulary-building and testing apps

Nowadays, a lot of apps are available that can help you to improve your English speaking, reading and communication skills. These apps will help you build vocabulary by teaching you new words and conducting exercises.

These are some of the top tips that the experienced faculty members of our institute suggest. If you follow these things, you’ll surely see an improvement in your language skills and vocabulary.

Apart from it, if you want to prepare yourself for the IELTS test, you can contact our agency for proper guidance and preparation.
